Set in a modern day survival-horror universe, the co-operative gameplay of
Left 4 Dead (
L4D) casts four "Survivors" in an epic struggle against hordes of swarming zombies and terrifying "Boss Infected" mutants. Developed by Turtle Rock Studios and Valve, creators of the
Counter-Strike and
Half-Life games, the latest AI technology allows for multiplayer games of one to eight players.
A new and highly virulent strain of the rabies virus emerges and spreads through the human population with frightening speed. The pandemic's victims become grotesquely disfigured widely violent psychopaths, attacking the uninfected on sight. As one of the "lucky" few apparently immune to the sickness, you, unfortunately, are also trapped in a city crawling with thousands of the bloodthirsty Infected. Alone, you're dead. But together with a handful of fellow survivors, you might just fight your way to safety.
Players can play as a Survivor or as one of four types of Boss Infected, each of whom possess a unique mutant ability, such as a 50-foot tongue lasso or a giant belly full of explosive methane gas. The gameplay of
L4D is set across four massive campaigns. The zombie population of each mission is choreographed by an AI Director that monitors the human players' actions and creates a unique and dramatic experience for them on the fly.

Summary: Good Overall Game
Comment: This game my whole family liked. Not only to play online but playing against each other. Not many games are more than one player and we like to play multiplayer games.

Summary: Nightmares
Comment: This game doesn't have that much to it and doesn't have many weapons, I'm not a gamer really and I beat it in 9 hours. That being said, it gave me nightmares the A.I. is insane nothing is in the same place twice, even the good stuff, and I was nervous playing the game trying to avoid death even though it wasn't that easy to die. I never got a change to play online but the actual game's A.I. seemed real enough to be just as good.

Summary: Simply an amazing game!
Comment: The team based gameplay really sets this game apart. Your AI control squad mates are needed to make it through each level and the game forces you to help one another. It all comes together magically to make this game special instead of annoying.

Summary: Awesome game
Comment: okay, so this game is about 4 survivors ina zombie apocalypse... i love the idea... the game was deffinitely based off of online/multiplayer gameplay and replayability. there are on 4 stages, and 5 chapters in each and all of which are unlocked from the get go... i have plaeyed all of the above numerous times and ive only had the game for like 6 days, now dont get me wrong, i dont play video games 24/7, but this games deffinitely sat me on my couch more than i normally am, my girlfriend wasn't real pleased by this (haha). i have played campaign mode on LIVE once w/ my cousin before i bought the game (i dont have LIVE for myself yet) and that was a mind blowing experience. i will admit, though, the game gets a little repetative, each stage is the same idea, just different settings. 'run through the chapter, kill zombies, get to the safehouse, run through the next chapter, kill more zombies and get to the safehouse' at the end of each level, you and your 4 man team must hold out against a horde of zombies, a tank, a horde of zombies, another tank, and another horde of zombies as evac arrives. this gets very difficult as u go high up on the difficulty settings, or if u play w/ people that cant listen or strategize. there are only 6 guns (pistol(s) shotty, uzi, auto-shotty, assult rifle, and sniper rifle) and 2 grenades (pipe bomb and molotov) to choose from and 6 types of zombies (standard, boomer, smoker, hunter, tank, and witch), but the game is randomized, so you will never know exactly where anything is until you come across it... overall i give it a 9/10

Summary: A Great Zombie Shooter
Comment: Left 4 Dead was a game I had pre-ordered because of my love of zombie horror. My money was well spent.
Left 4 Dead has an entertaining single player mode that thankfully splits itself up into four different campaigns with each part containing a different setting (woods, city, etc.) and short length. You can also choose to play these campaigns with friends over Xbox Live or split-screen.
There really isn't a story to get immersed into during the game play: you kill zombies with the last remaining humans in the area. What the game lacks in story telling, however, it makes up in its fantastic AI. Even when playing the same campaign over again your enemies will come from different directions, ammo and health will be located in different areas, and "special" zombies won't be in the same place twice. This makes for great tactical fun.
Co-op and multiplayer are heavily stressed in this game. Even when in single player mode you'll need to rely on your AI partners for help. Luckily, the AI allies are quite well done and will actually help you in the game.
The online multiplayer game variant is a ton of fun. However, I hope Valve will release map packs because the constant enviorment of the campaign gets old after a while.
This game has a moderate replay value as long as you have a few buddies online to fool around with. If you don't have access to Live, however, then you might be done with this game after a while of play.
Overall, it's a great game and I recommend it.
