Summary: The Perfect ANYTIME Gift
Comment: The all new slimmer PSP 3000 comes in with a couple of new upgrades over the 2000 model. Primarily for the Skype functionality, a microphone is onboard along with a reduced glare 4.3" screen. As far as glare reduction goes, I did not see that much of a difference over the PSP 2000. Its a given that fingerprints will still be a continued problem for the PSP line. Thankfully, the age old problem of ghosting has yet to appear on my new PSP 3000. One of the sweeter features now is an upgraded (AV) video output support. Owners can now operate their systems with regular (NON HD) TV. I suggest buyers pick up a good add on composite or component cable. With the usual collection of great games, improved graphics is a major plus.

As with all previous models, control buttons layout are very much like the classic Play Station. One area of concern is that load times for the UMD (Universal Media Disc) seemed to drag a bit. Its a given that purchasing the core pak which includes the proprietary MS Duo Card is more cost effective in the end. Its obvious that Sony missed the boat when it went with its own proprietary format instead of the more widely used and less costly SD standard.

Even though Wi-fi capable, the unit is outfitted with possibly the slowest version (802.11b) on the planet. It powers up via a 5 volt ac adapter or USB. Video playback is great as long as you copy your favorites on the memory stick Duo Card. Going any other way is definitely a slow dragged out process. When it comes to television, Sony's own version of Slingbox allows for free tv viewing. This PSP won't get confused with your IPOD anytime soon but music play is generally good. Another added feature is that it will even support music art. If one is going to display photos on the PSP I strongly suggest compressing your files. Photo display can be slide show or singles.

Of note, the PSP is also a web browser. However, its hit and miss for flash. Streaming internet radio via Shoutcast is a freebie. PSP offers a regular schedule of firmware updates. As with the earlier editions, via a network or the internet the unit can pick up audio, video and photo files that are stored on a PS3. I strongly suggest spending the bucks to purchase a protective case.

Even with its minor flaws, the PSP 3000 still brings it on. I would definitely recommend this model as a gift to one's self much less a gift to others.

Summary: PSP 3000
Comment: The PSP 3000 is a very good product so far. The silver finish prevents the fingerprints you normally see on the piano black version. My only gripe so far is that this current version can't be hacked like the older PSPs. There is shadowing with fast moving pictures, like the tennis ball in Virtua Tennis.

Summary: Very good buy.
Comment: I owned the PSP Slim 2000 (prior Version) and compared to this new one there is not much of a difference other that a a built in microphone. Any other update is BS, there is no noticeable difference between models. Going back to the micropone, this is why I upgraded since I use the Skype feature. Now you don't need to buy the microphone/headphones unit that tangles up and is annoying and uncomfortable. You can now just hold up the PSP to you ear and talk. That works for me. Ohh, also my PSP 2000 was the Ice silver finish, well this flat grey finish on the new one is ugly and the plastic makes it look cheap compared to the old one. If you need the microphone get it if not just get the old 2000 version and save some $$$. If Sony really wanted to upgrade the PSP they should make it touch screen so that it would be easier to type, but I still love this gadget.

Comment: I purchased this package deal for my 21 year old son. He really enjoys it. It is a good deal, it comes with a memory card, game and other features. It is a good item for a wide range of people. My 10 yr old has had one for 4 years now and he really likes it. The are also nice for trips or entertainment for when the power goes out! Just keep it charged and you can watch hours of movies on it too, during power outages. I recommend this product for all ages!

Summary: Silver is good
Comment: This system is great. Not only is the screen brighter and sharper than the 2000, but they kept much of the same basic size and shape so that the slim and lite gear will still work for the great most part on the slim and brite.

There's been a big panic spread about the scan lines on the 3000 system due to the upgraded screen. Jagged lines do appear during swift action on the screen, but interlacing 'problems' aren't much of a problem. The scanlines do appear during movement, but are less noticable and aggravating when compared the the massive ghosting issues of previous PSP incarnations, in my opinion. The worst of the interlacing happens so fast that I hardly process it, which is why circulated still frames of interlacing issues make the problem seem much more horrible..

This version of the system tries a new gimmick - an unglossy finish that won't pick up your fingerprints all the time. Do not mistake the plastic for cheap simply because it's unglossy - The mystic silver system is as sturdy as any of the glossy variety, and won't pick up your fingerprints all the time. If you do enjoy the glossy look and don't mind taking the extra care to avoid fingerprints smearing your machine, the black PSP slim and brite (3000) system, sold in an identical bundle is also available. I prefer both the silver look and the no-fingerprints finish of my nice mystic silver PSP.
